Creative Discovery Museum Ticket Giveaway!

It’s time for another giveaway, this time for a Creative Discovery Museum Family Four Pack! The folks at the CDM are giving away four tickets to the Creative Discovery Museum to one ‘Nooga Moms reader! Get excited! The Creative Discovery Museum is a wonderful place to take kids of all ages.

Top Ten Reasons to Get a Creative Discovery Museum Membership

10: Discounts! Members reap all kinds of benefits, one of them being discounts in the Museum Gift Shop and Cafe Dino-Mite. CDM members also get discounts at other area attractions, like the Tennessee Aquarium, IMAX, and the River Gorge Explorer.
9: VIP Treatment! Creative Discovery Museum members get express check-ins, which will really come in handy on those days when your kids are absolutely stir-crazy and antsy to get in and have fun!
8: Admission to Members-Only Events! The Creative Discovery Museum holds its famous Monsterbash every Halloween and guess what? It’s members only!
7: A Place to Cool Down! Chattanooga gets crazy-hot in the summertime, and what better way to beat the heat AND keep the kids busy by heading inside for some air-conditioned fun?
6: Fresh Exhibits! Did you know that the Creative Discovery Museum rotates their exhibits several times a year? Now through January 8th, 2013 they have their Winter Wonders exhibit. Your children can have an indoor snowball fight, “ice skate” in their socks, dress up like a cuddly forest animal and so much more!
5: Something for Everyone! Do you have a little one – like, a REALLY little one? One that’s not even walking yet? No worries – the Creative Discovery Museum has a safe zone just for babies to play, roll, and explore. It’s gated off from the rest of the exhibits, so no worries about toddler feet around your crawler!
4: It Pays for Itself! A Family membership is only $95.00. If your family of four visits the museum twice a year, you are paying $95.60. For almost exactly the same amount as the cost of two visits for a family of four, you can get a year-long membership and come whenever you like for free! Not to mention that $95 membership ends up working out to about $8 a month. I bet you spend more than that on Starbucks!
3: Always Something to Do! It’s hard to come up with fresh activities as a parent, and sometimes you just have to get out of the house and let your kids run out their energy. Have a family membership? Pile ‘em in the car and take them to the Creative Discovery Museum!
2: Makes Naptime Easier! Kids hyper? Let them run out that energy at the museum, bring them home and watch them crash. You’re welcome!

And the #1 reason to get a Creative Discovery Museum membership is…

If you buy a gift membership between now and December 31st, you get a special interactive media clip, a snowman, and an age-appropriate puzzle! You know you’ve been thinking about getting a membership and there’s no time like the present.

If you’d like to try out the Creative Discovery Museum before buying, enter the giveaway below for a chance to win a family four pack of tickets! Hurry – the giveaway won’t last long!

The opinions and thoughts in this post are my own. I was not compensated in any way for this post. The Creative Discovery Museum provided me with a four-pack of tickets to give away on ‘Nooga Moms, because they are awesome.

Chattanooga Trick or Treat 2012

It’s time for Chattanooga Trick or Treat 2012, ‘Nooga Moms! I’m currently at home from work with my sickie daughter, who is going on day 2 of a nasty chest cold. I am hoping that she’ll be better to go to her daycare for their Halloween party. We will probably be refraining from Trick or Treat to keep her in from the cold, but if you’re looking for some Trick or Treat fun for your little goblins, here are a few things happening tomorrow for “official” Chattanooga Trick or Treat:

  • Hamilton Place Mall: Hamilton Place is hosting safe, fun, indoor Trick or Treat on Wednesday, October 31st from 6 PM to 7 PM. Bring the kids in their Halloween finest and load them down with sugar!
  • Northgate Mall: If you live on the Hixson side of the river, you can partake in Trick or Treat fun at Northgate Mall on Wednesday, October 31st from 6 PM to 7 PM.
  • Fall Carnival @ Patten Center in Lookout Valley: Swing by the Patten Center in Lookout Valley on Wednesday, October 31st from 6 PM to 8 PM for games, prizes, candy, hot dogs and more! Call 825-5955 for more information, or check out the Facebook event page here.
Various churches in the area will host Trunk or Treat events, and of course neighborhoods all over Chattanooga will be participating in Trick or Treat on Halloween night. If you’re like me and live in an apartment complex, the top three options above may be your best best to score some candy and show off your little one’s costume.
Have any good Chattanooga Trick or Treat tips? Hot spots for great candy? Share in the comments!

‘Nooga Moms’ Night Out!

Hi there! Did you miss me?

…. You don’t have to answer that, unless your answer is ‘yes’. ;)

Anyway, after a too-long hiatus, I’m back to blogging and ready to go!

As a WOH (working-outside-the-home)mom, my life looks a lot like this:

  • Wake up
  • Get ready
  • Get the kid ready
  • Get the kid out the door (with no less than four stuffed animals)
  • Drop kid off at daycare
  • Go to work
  • Pick kid up from daycare
  • Dinner
  • Bedtime
  • Relax

Wash, rinse, repeat! It’s only until recently that I have started making a conscious effort to set aside ME time. It’s not that my husband hasn’t always been willing to give me a night out – I just haven’t really taken the opportunities until recently. My social life has been more active in the last month than in the 2 1/2 years since I became a mom! I thought I’d share a list of great ideas for a ‘Nooga Moms’ Night Out!

  1. Artsy U – I’m getting ready to do this with my best friend. Artsy U is a “BYOB painting class” – bring a bottle of wine (no beer or liquor allowed, just wine) and sit down to create a beautiful painting! Check out their calendar and book in advance. Cost: $25 to $45 per person.
  2. Brewhaus – On Thursday nights (subject to change) Brewhaus offers beer tastings (free of charge! Seriously!). Stop by and enjoy delicious food (their fried pickles are AMAZING), great beer, and a laid-back and fun atmosphere.
Cost: Food & drinks are moderately priced.
  3. Moccasin Bend Brewing Company – I snagged a LivingSocial deal for a beer tastings & brewery tour and I’m glad that I did. My best friend and I went a few weekends ago. We sat down and enjoyed multiple beer samples (I had at least 6) and then were taken on a tour of the brewery. It was so much fun. I would’ve been happy just perched at the bar, sipping on beer and enjoying the atmosphere but it was really cool to learn about the brewing process in a small environment.
Cost: $10-20 depending on the ‘level’ of tour you purchase.
  4. Ruby Falls Haunted Cavern: This one is a seasonal favorite of mine. If you like having the holy living daylights scared out of you (I do.. I’m weird like that) check out the Haunted Cavern at Ruby Falls. Hurry – there is only one more weekend plus Halloween left!
Cost: $17-23 (discounts if you buy online and for “off-days”) for one ticket to their two-part haunt.
  5. Polearity Fitness Classes – This one might not be for the faint of heart or shy of nature. Pole dancing is becoming a more popular form of fitness and fun. Polearity offers pole dancing classes to unleash your alter ego and have fun doing something different!
Cost:  Contact Polearity fitness for information.

There you have it, ‘Nooga Moms! Some suggestions for a fun night out – no kids or husbands allowed!

Do you have any suggestions for a good girls night out? Post them in the comments!

Introducing Chattanooga DealMoms!

If you love a good bargain AND you love to support local businesses, then you are going to want to get signed up for Chattanooga DealMoms! This site will offer between one and three deals each week from local businesses in the area, always at 50% off or more. Tiffany Merritt, the founder and owner of Chattanooga DealMoms started this daily deal site with her husband because she personally enjoys discovering great places to eat and shop, and she can do even more of that if she has steep discounts for those establishments. She also saw a need for a site that would focus just on Scenic City.

What makes this site different from other daily deal sites that are already here? This one is run by a Chattanooga mom, and the deals are made with moms in the city in mind. The site will be putting a spotlight on all those establishments that make Chattanooga the incredible city we all know and love while also bringing to light some of hidden gems you will flip over the second you try them! Chattanooga DealMoms brings together the power of the people who really run this city (the women, of course!) to support the local economy, and to support our own families by stretching our dollars. Everybody wins!

If you have a favorite place in the city that you want to see featured, you can reach out to Tiffany at and let her know. This is a different kind of operation because YOU can help determine where you will save money! Her goal is to bring the deals Chattanooga moms really want to life, and in the process bring the city’s very best customers through the doors of local businesses. Think of Chattanooga DealMoms as not just another deal site, but as YOUR deal site. It is responsive and open to your needs and desires.

If you currently own a business and would like to craft a deal with Chattanooga DealMoms, please contact Tiffany directly. She is very interested in working with local businesses and will work with you to create a customized deal that fits your needs best.

Once Chattanooga DealMoms has 500 people signed up, the deals will start rolling out! Please click here to sign up, and tell your friends and family about this new way to save money in town by sending them an email or posting a link to Chattanooga DealMoms on Twitter or Facebook. Tiffany aims to be up and running by November, just in time for the holiday shopping season!

In addition to getting signed up at, you can also follow them on other social media outlets. Click here to find them on Twitter, and click here to follow them on Facebook!
